Nadia describes her two weeks work experience at MG

Week One

Monday

I was introduced to the Waitrose and Battersea team who I would be working with for three days during my first week. Despite having issues with my computer regarding the office apps not working, the team still gave me some documents containing previous campaigns they had done (mainly from Waitrose) and the campaigns of competing supermarket brands.

Tuesday

I researched competitive data which I found interesting because I was able to compare what different media types supermarkets had spent money on. I also went to a meeting with DCM (Digital Cinema Media) where I gained insight into the best placements for adverts in the pre film reel.

Wednesday

I met the Estee Lauder team and they introduced me to what they do. I got to look at some competitive brands of Estee Lauder’s makeup, skincare and haircare companies. Also, I briefly looked at TGI’s and some other Excel files. I had a meeting with a Spotify representative and learned about how advertising works on the platform.

Thursday

I was back with the Waitrose team and I got to look further at competitive data. Also, I went over and met the print team and worked with them for a while. I learned what vouching is and I got to do some of it with them which I really enjoyed.

Friday

By the end of the week I was back with the Estee Lauder team where I looked into Estee brands further. I was able to conduct my own research, looking into beauty products that had recently been released. In the afternoon, I went to a meeting with the OmniGOV team about a campaign they did with Visit Britain. In this meeting I learned more about the different platforms for advertising and about how companies use mobile data to target a specific type of audience.

Week Two

Monday

I started working with the OmniGOV team and learning about what they do. I had introduction talks from people who work on different media types (such as TV and OOH) which I found very insightful.

Tuesday

I did some competitive analysis on companies competing with Forestry England. I also sat in on a phone call about targeting and retargeting specific audiences.

Wednesday

I looked at some graphs regarding Forestry England’s recent campaign and those of the competing companies. I also went to a PCA about the FCA which showed the results of their ad campaign compared to competing companies.

Thursday

I did a little bit of TGI work using Telmar. The main thing I looked at was the different music types different generations listen to. For most of the afternoon I sat in a client meeting where we discussed the advertising strategies for their 2020 campaign.

Friday

I had an induction on how AV works which I found fascinating because I was able to relate it to my everyday life as it was something that I see a lot.

Overall, I really enjoyed my time at Manning Gottlieb OMD as it has been a great learning experience for me in terms of commuting and becoming familiar with working life. I would like to thank everyone who has helped me, whether that be allowing me to work with their department, giving me a presentation or letting me sit in during meetings. Everyone was incredibly nice, and I have had an amazing experience that I will carry forward with me into my own working life.

Thank you!

Nadia
